  1. modemu2k v0.0.6
  2. -------------------
  3. modemu2k is a fork of modemu, originally developed by Toru Egashira
  4. (Travis Build status
  5. <https://travis-ci.org/theimpossibleastronaut/modemu2k>)
  6. What is modemu2k?
  7. ----------------
  8. modemu2k adds telnet capability to a comm program. It can redirect
  9. telnet I/O to a pty so that a comm program can handle the pty as a tty
  10. with a real modem, and allows you to use a comm program's scripting
  11. and file transfer features over telnet. Now supports IPv6 connections.
  12. Maintainer: Andy Alt <andy400-dev@yahoo.com>
  13. License: GNU GPL 3
  14. Home page: <https://github.com/theimpossibleastronaut/modemu2k>
  15. Issues and bug reporting
  16. <https://github.com/theimpossibleastronaut/modemu2k/issues>
  17. Dependencies
  18. ------------
  19. * gettext (unless --disable-nls is used)
  20. * flex
  21. Compilation
  22. -----------
  23. `./configure`
  24. Use ./configure --help to see extra options
  25. `make`
  26. `make install` is optional. The binary can be run from the src/
  27. directory; however, installation is required to use the translations,
  28. and to create and install a script (m2k-minicom.sh) that can invoke
  29. minicom (see below).
  30. Sample Usage
  31. ------------
  32. Note: while in the program if backspace doesn't work, use CTRL+H.
  33. 1) Stand alone usage
  34. Invoked with no option,
  35. modemu2k
  36. modemu2k reads from standard input and writes to standard output.
  37. Input
  38. > atd"localhost [port]
  39. (prompt ">" is not shown) You will see your host's login prompt
  40. (if a server is running). When you disconnect, you will get "NO
  41. CARRIER" indication. Then input
  42. > at%q
  43. to quit modemu2k.
  44. 2) With a comm program
  45. (This example uses minicom as the comm program)
  46. Invoke with "-c" option,
  47. modemu2k -e "AT%B0=1%B1=1&W" -c "minicom -l -tansi -con -p %s"
  48. From within the comm program, if you have a server running, to
  49. connect you can enter:
  50. atd"localhost
  51. You could also connect to a BBS. For some telnet addresses, see:
  52. * <<Prism BBS<http://filegate.net/>
  53. * The Rusty Mailbox (telnet to trmb.ca, port 2030)
  54. * Synchronet BBS List<http://www.synchro.net/sbbslist.html>
  55. To quit modemu2k, just quit the comm program.
  56. A script to invoke minicom as mentioned above will be installed to
  57. your bin directory when `make install` is run.
  58. Escaping to command mode and returning
  59. --------------------------------------
  60. To escape to command mode, use '+++'. Use ATO to return to online mode.
  61. Hanging up a call/closing a connection
  62. ------------------------------------
  63. If you are connected to a server where gracefully logging out isn't
  64. possible, to "hang up" or close the connection you can escape to command
  65. mode and enter 'ATH`.

  70. (*) Almost all file xfer protocols require 8bit through connection,
  71. which means Modemu2k must be in the binary transmission mode. See %B
  72. command description in the man page.

  75. A man page is also available.
  76. For Translators
  77. -----------
  78. We use Transifex to translate the output messages. To start translating
  79. modemu2k, create an account in Transifex and ask to join a translation
  80. team (or create a new one) at
